Call for Abstracts, EGU 2019: sessions BG2.1 and BG1.55

Vienna, 7-12 April 2019 Sessione BG2.1 “Forest management and climate change: From theory to applications”. In general, the mechanisms that explain how climate variability influences tree growth are known. However, how growth responses vary and distribute among health and viability classes within forest tree populations need to be better understood and pointed out to apply forest planning management under changing climate conditions. Predicting the influence of trends and variability in climate variables on forest health and/or growth responses in the medium term may be a key to develop methods to make climate variability an ordinary and essential tool to achieve … Continua a leggere Call for Abstracts, EGU 2019: sessions BG2.1 and BG1.55

PhD project available on predicting impacts of extreme climate events in major forestry species

We are seeking a PhD student to begin October 1st 2018 looking at understanding and predicting impacts of extreme climate events in major forestry species. The project will quantify the impact and legacy of droughts on forest growth based on Pinus and Picea tree ring chronologies combined with UK soils and climate data to identify and plan for adverse impacts on the UK forestry sector. We will also compare drought impacts and legacies against those apparent in equivalent tree ring chronologies from Spain as an analogue to future climatic conditions for the UK and at additional UK sites predicted to be at highest risk according to climate change forecasts.

Continua a leggere IL NUOVO INVENTARIO FORESTALE NAZIONALE E LO STATO DELLE CONOSCENZE SUL PATRIMONIO FORESTALE ITALIANO

Special Issue on Forests, Agriculture and Environmental Protection

Forests and agricultural systems are an integral part of the global environment and human well‐being, providing multiple goods and services essential for people worldwide and crucial for sustainable development. Forests are seen as carbon sinks, as stabilizers of climate, as protectors of watersheds, and as conservers of biological diversity. Agriculture uses natural resources to produce commodities, which maintain life. Often these agroforestry systems are characterized by a decentral operation which impedes sometimes sustainable management. In this context, the efficient use, protection and conservation of natural resources (vegetation, water, soil, climate) in agroforestry systems are the key to achieve international sustainable development goals and ensure the promotion of an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable future. Hence, quantitative studies from all aspects of forest, agriculture and environment sustainable management are encouraged to contribute to this Special Issue in order to promote knowledge and sustainable strategies for the preservation and management of natural resources in agroforestry systems Continua a leggere Special Issue on Forests, Agriculture and Environmental Protection
