2 open positions: Postdoc (high precision atmospheric / trace gas flux measurements) and PhD student (land surface modelling)

The Bioclimatology group at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is offering positions of
1 Postdoctoral researcher
1 Ph.D. student
in the project OXYFLUX – Oxygen flux measurements as a new tracer for the carbon and nitrogen cycles in terrestrial ecosystems funded by the European Research Council (ERC).
The positions are limited by three years and should be filled for 1st July 2016. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 100% (postdoc), which corresponds to 39.8 working hours per week and 65% (Ph.D. student), which corresponds to
25.9 working hours per week.
Your duties
OXYFLUX will investigate various aspects of oxygen exchange processes between the land surface and the atmosphere ranging from local to global scale. Tasks include data analysis and interpretation, presentation of results nationally and internationally, publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Postdoc: Tasks include development, test and application of field deployable gas exchange chambers for oxygen fluxes between terrestrial ecosystem components and the atmosphere. Measurements are carried out at sites in Germany.
Ph.D. student: Tasks include model simulation of the exchange of oxygen between various terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere, implementation of oxygen fluxes into a multilayer canopy model, model calibration, validation and data interpretation
Your profile
•Completed university degree (Ph.D. for postdoc) in environmental
sciences or related discipline (meteorology, physics, geography, plant ecology, geoecology, soil sciences, environmental engineering etc.)
•Scientific creativity shown by a track record of original and
innovative research
•Proficiency in English
Additionally for postdoc
•Research experience with high precision trace gas measurements and/or
soil gas exchange measurements
•Technical expertise with field measurements
The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women.
Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply as they are underrepresented in this field. Disabled persons with equivalent aptitude will be favoured.
Please send your application with letter of motivation, CV with copies of certificates, list of publications and contacts of references in electronic form as a single pdf-file by 22 May 2016 to Prof. A. Knohl, bioklima-job@uni-goettingen.de (subject OXYFLUX Postdoc or OXYFLUX PhD).
If you have any questions, please contact:
bioklima-job@uni-goettingen.de. Information about the bioclimatology group and OXYFLUX can be found at http://www.uni-goettingen.de/bioclimatology.
The documents will be destroyed after a holding period of three months.
