Postdoctoral Fellowship at ZEF

One-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at ZEF for mapping the forest cover in Central Asia
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time fixed term position for 1yr
as Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn,
Germany (http://www.zef.de). The fellowship is supported through a collaborative project with the
Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as part of CGIAR program on Forests, Trees and
Agroforestry. This postdoctoral study will contribute to the work of multidisciplinary team involved
in agroforestry research in the region of Central Asia (CA) http://www.zef.de/1631.html.
Job Description:
The candidate is expected to lead a study on mapping of forest cover in CA through the analyses of
satellite imagery of moderate and high spatial resolution. Possible approaches for addressing this
objective is validation of 250m MODIS-VCF tree cover product for a recent year and development of
a regionalized procedure to map the tree cover in CA.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree and skill set of relevance to remote sensing and
(agro)forestry research, particularly in drylands, advanced writing skills for scientific publishing in
English, and strong team work orientation. Previous experience in CA is of advantage.
