Ph.D. student in “Plant Ecophysiology”

Dynamic, reliable and motivated student with M.Sc./Diploma in plant (eco-)phys-iology, ecology, agricultural sciences, biology, environmental sciences or related disciplines. Strong interest in process- and system-oriented research. Experiences and skills in working with plants under controlled conditions, experimental work as well as interest working abroad are highly beneficial. Driving license is re-quired. Teamwork within group and with project partners requires English lan-guage skills, although the main partner in Israel speaks German. 

Responsibilities 

Research within the SNF project “Cou-pling of the canopy and the root system through carbon and nitrogen dynamics in tropical trees” which will be carried out together with colleagues of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The focus of the PhD project is on mechanisms underlying the coupling between canopy and root systems in tropical trees under changing environmental conditions. Ex-perimental work will be carried out in Rehovot and Tel Aviv, Israel, but this Ph.D. position is affiliated with ETH Zurich. Tasks include set-up and maintenance of plants in a unique aeroponic system for growing small trees, labelling with stable isotope tracers, gas exchange as well as total carbon budget measure-ments, data acquisition as well as anal-yses.
