Call for Remote Sensing and GIS Technician

We are recruiting a Remote Sensing and GIS Technician to join the growing Research team within Permian Global. Our team collects, analyses and presents relevant and up-to-date geospatial data to support the company’s decision making and project development processes. The selected candidate will work closely in collaboration with members of internal Research and Project Development teams, as well as third party partners and providers.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify relevant RS/GIS data and analysis needs for forest carbon projects
  • Facilitate satellite data collection, pre-processing, analysis and presentation
  • Accuracy and precision assessments of land cover classification schemes
  • Produce thematic maps using accepted methodologies to aid further analysis and decision making
  • Analysis of geospatial data to support feasibility studies for and development of forest carbon projects
  • Support and collaborate with international research staff
  • Remain up-to-date with relevant best practice, scientific and technical developments

Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have obtained or is due to be awarded an MSc in Geographical Information Science, Remote Sensing or related field, have at least 2 years previous work experience in a professional environment and a solid knowledge of RS/GISapplications in forestry and conservation.

He or she will:

  • Have a thorough understanding of RS/GIS theory and practice and be well skilled in ArcGIS as well as other relevant software applications.
  • Have experience using multispectral satellite image processing software for land cover classification
  • Demonstrate background knowledge in forest science, forest conservation or commercial forestry
  • A good understanding of, and ideally experience in the collection, processing and analysis of RADAR and LiDAR data
  • Have a proven competence in data management
  • Be a strong team player experienced in working in a multicultural environment
  • Be comfortable working independently under minimal supervision to tight deadlines
  • Be able to effectively communicate complex analysis to non-technical staff
  • Be fully fluent in English, additional languages a plus

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in modelling future land-use change scenarios
  • Strong interest in conservation and sustainable development
  • Work experience in developing countries and conservation related work a plus
  • Knowledge of the evolving forest carbon markets a plus
