The Global Change and Sustainability Center (GCSC) at the University of Utah has open positions for three postdoctoral scientists. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team of Environmental Earth Scientists to investigate land-atmosphere exchange of climate-change relevant atmospheric trace gases and their stable isotopes in the western United States.
The positions are focused on
- forest-atmosphere exchange of carbon dioxide and its isotopes,
- urban trace gas emissions,
- trace gas emissions associated with drought and fire.
These positions require a Ph.D. degree in a field of environmental earth science. Each candidate should have significant experience in land surface modeling, atmospheric modeling, or both.
The desired skills include
- use and development of state-of-the-art models of the terrestrial ecosystem or atmosphere (such as CLM, CESM, STILT, and WRF);
- strong data analysis skills, ability to test model predictions against observations, and use observations to guide model improvement and development;
- demonstrated computer programming skills,
- excellent oral and written communication;
- ability to work in an integrated team environment.
The postdocs will have the opportunity to participate with a cohort of environmental science postdocs in a formal Postdoctoral Mentoring Program run by the GCSC. The positions are based at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and will involve interaction with Oak Ridge and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, and/or Arizona State University (depending on position).
