The Forest Resources and Climate Unit is looking for a researcher to contribute to the further development of web information data processing and web information services:
- Developing forest-related information services
- Integrating forest data and applications into web information services.
- Supporting the further development of the European Forest Information System (E-FIS), including the European Forest Fire Information System and the European Forest Data Centre, and through the integration of new web services.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in environmental science, informatics, or related fields (or a University degree and 5 years of research experience after the degree giving access to doctora studies).
The candidate will also be expected to provide support for the Apache web server running within a Linux environment and have a good understanding of different vector and raster data formats, with experience of manipulating datasets using utility programs such the GDAL toolset, and Oracle SQL*Plus and sqlLoader.
Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required. The knowledge of another communit language would be an advantage.
